Now serving in Ecuador – The Campbell Family

In that day you will say: “Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done, and proclaim that his name is exalted.”  Isaiah 12:4

Rusty and Laura are both graduates of Cascade College, and began their journey through life together in 1999. Rusty is a born-and-raised Oregonian, while Laura spent the first 18 years of her life in Kenya, East Africa where her parents were missionaries. They have three precious sons, born on three different continents – Alex in Asia, Stephen in North America, and Benjamin in Europe. They are truly a family of global nomads who have lived and traveled all over the world. Prior to joining the Angola Team, Rusty and Laura worked as English teachers and vocational missionaries in Japan for four years.

The Campbells joined the Angola Team in 2007, while Rusty was a student at Harding Graduate School. They were a part of the team for four years and participated in all of their preparations, including the survery trip to Angola in 2008, the Missions Resource Network training program, and language study in Portugal. When the team left for Angola in July of 2011, the Campbells remained behind in Portugal because they were expecting their third child in just a few weeks. They planned on joining their teammates in Angola as soon as was reasonably possible after the baby’s birth. However, in the intervening months, God took their family in a completely different direction.

The Campbells are now missionaries in Ecuador, living in Quito, and serving with an organization called Operation Ecuador. Rusty responsibilities include administrating a jungle lodge on the Cayapas River in the northwest region of Ecuador that serves as base of operations for evangelism, church-planting, and outreach to the surrounding villages. He also mentors national evangelists working in the region and coordinates short-term mission projects that come to serve the local people.
