This year, we were blessed to host two wonderful interns from Harding University, Bonnie Foreman and Shelby O’Bryan. They were quite the troopers: getting up for 6 o’clock prayer meetings, washing a roomful of dishes while bonding, breaking down on the side of the road, studying Portuguese, listening to endless stories from our children, and having a great attitude through it all.
Bonnie and Shelby really jumped in to make the most of their internship, taking extra opportunities to explore Huambo and Angolan culture. We also enjoyed some excellent cooking as they shared their talents and excitement at trying their hands at some new things.
The highlight of the internship was Bonnie and Shelby teaching the children from São Luís to sing Jesus Loves Me and This Little Light of Mine. They thought through culturally and strategically how they could use their talents to bless the São Luís children. They chose these two simple songs and taught them well, reading Scripture and emphasizing the meaning. They even learned the songs in Portuguese in order to teach the children. On their final Sunday, the children sang the songs the congregation. What a blessed event!
Thank you Bonnie and Shelby for sharing your sweet spirits and talents with us this summer!
