Kairos Lab Helps Focus Our Strategy

On November 2-7, our team attended the Kairos Church Planting Strategy Lab in Nashville, TN. This lab is designed to help church planters articulate and refine a strategy for their specific context. Although not all of our team was able to attend, we were still able to clarify our strategy, illustrate it graphically, and get feedback from others. Several experienced missionaries and ministers also attended the lab to be trained as coaches and were able to ask incisive questions as we each presented parts of our strategy. Our team was truly blessed by the training from Kairos, excitement of our fellow attendees, wisdom of the coaches, and hospitality of the Harpeth Hills, Ethos, and Hillsboro Churches of Christ.

Meyers in Portugal

Robert and Teague went to Portugal from mid-August to Mid-October to get a jumpstart on language training. They spent 2-2.5 hours each weekday with Eunice Carapeto, the team’s Portuguese teacher who has been teaching Portuguese to missionaries for more than 25 years. The rest of their time was spent on homework, practicing Portuguese through daily expereinces, and forming relationships with the people of the Lisbon Church of Christ. They were able to collect valuable information for the team regarding future language study and living in Portugal. Robert and Teague were especially blessed by the relationships that they formed with members of the church as well as other missionaries who were studying under Eunice.

Partner Congregations for Nathan, Jordan, and the Campbells

Praise God for raising up partners in this work! Eastside Church of Christ in Colorado Springs has committed to partner with and oversee Nathan. Little Rock Church has decided to partner with Jordan in this mission. And to top it off, the Hillsboro Church of Christ in Nashville has committed to the Campbells. We thank God for the Christians who are stepping out in faith in this journey with us. All team members are still in need of additional funding, so we expect God to continue to work through His people.

Two Angola Church Leaders Visit

Banda and Charles celebrate the publication of Portuguese WBS materials with John Reese

André Banda and Charles Kambungo, leaders in the Igreja de Cristo em Angola (Church of Christ in Angola), visited our team for 3 weeks during May. Their visit was an incredible blessing from God. They traveled through several states visiting churches and telling the story of God’s work in Angola. They also joined our team for a 4 day seminar on Church Planting Movements, taught by David Watson and hosted by MRN. It was wonderful to pray and plan in partnership with these Angolan Christians!

Pepperdine Bible Lectures

Most of our team were blessed to be able to attend the 66th annual Pepperdine Bible Lectures in Malibu, CA at the beginning of May 2009. We were invited to teach a class entitled New Strategies for New Fields in Africa: The Case of Angola. If interested, you can purchase the recording here. We also hosted a breakfast, where Angolans André Banda and Charles Kambungo shared their story. It was a wonderful week of refreshment and building connections for the Kingdom.
