Blogging Philosophy

I am trying to change my blogging philosophy. If you look at the date on my last post you’ll see that my previous blogging philosophy didn’t do me much good. As I was trying to figure out why I’ve not written for so long I realized what I’ve been trying to accomplish in my writing.

My previous philosophy

  • Tell a story
  • Introduce a problem
  • Solve the problem
  • Tell what God has done or taught me

The flaw in this philosophy is that I have no idea what God is trying to teach me or what God is doing at any given moment. I can look back and see it sometimes. Or I think I can at least. But I don’t usually see it as things are happening. Right now I’m in Southern Mississippi and I have no idea what God was thinking when Katrina came through. Sometimes I think He wasn’t even paying attention. I’ve learned that I don’t have to justify what God has done. I can just trust that God is teaching me something even when I don’t have a clue what.

My new philosophy:

  • Just write

But here’s the problem with writing. Writing gives proof of ignorance and even worse it leaves a trail of evidence of that ignorance. I’m trying not to care any more. From now on I’m just gunna write what’s on my mind or what’s happening. If you disagree with me, good for you, I’ll probably disagree with me this time next week too. I used to spend days or weeks on a stupid blog post. So I ended up with all these half written posts cause I could never get them just right. Hopefully I’ll finish this one by letting you know what’s happened since my last post.

Update:

  • Chris and I got to Mozambique.
  • We were immediately forced out of the Province
  • My lung collapsed
  • The rest of my summer was horrible
  • There were no doctors
  • I couldn’t fly with a collapsed lung
  • I thought I might die
  • Most people didn’t believe there was anything wrong with me
  • I eventually got better
  • Flew home, had lung surgery
  • Spent a semester recovering from the surgery
  • Got behind on classes
  • Spent another semester catching up
  • Spent the summer in Washington State… It was awesome
  • Worked in the berry fields in Washington, forgot my Portuguese
  • Taught a course on The Book of Acts in Meru Kenya
  • Got a job in the student center
  • Katrina came
  • My parents lived with me for a while
  • I went down to Southern Mississippi to help out
  • That’s where I am now
  • Some days are good, others stink.

And I’ll pick up with the blogging thing now.

HE LIVES!

I knew that most of Africa has some sort of ISP provider, but I didn't know that southern Mississippi had one!

P.S. A few pictoral updates of your life in MS would be nice.

I think I could arrange that

Wow. I'm amazed. (Nathan, nice blog, good post, good philosophy, lousy title creativity.) But I'm most impressed with the speed with which Bobby found your new location. How'd you do it? I had to get on the FTP site and hunt through folders for it.

Anyway, welcome back.

Ohhh... I remember. You left a comment for Bobby, and Blogger obviously knows the current location of your blog... I get it now. Thanks.
